The Importance of Different Types of Semi Trailers
Semi trailers have been playing an extremely important role in the highway transportation industry due to the comprehensive economic benefits they bring. Not only they have very high transportation efficiency, but also the cost and the fuel consumption are low. More importantly, the use of semi-trailer can also promote the organizational form of logistics to a certain extent in any countries whose economy depends on highway transportation. Therefore, the existence of semi-trailer is very important.
The transportation of different goods requires different types of semi-trailers. For example, the self-unloading semi-trailer is suitable for the transportation of bulk and scattered goods such as coal, ore, and building materials; the low-bed semi-trailer is suitable for the transportation of vehicles, machines and other heavy-duty goods; For the transportation of other light foam goods, the tank semi-trailer is mainly used to transport liquids, bulk materials and bulk cement, etc., and the van semi-trailer can be used for the transportation of household appliances, light textile goods, building materials and chart goods. They cannot be mixed with each other. For example, we must not use warehouse-type semi-trailers to transport liquids, bulk materials and bulk cement. So it is very important to separate them into different types. So, what are the different types of semi-trailer?
Skeleton Semi Trailer
Skeleton trailer is a kind of trailer whose purpose is solely to transports containers. The other type of trailer that can also transport contrainers is flatbed trailer, while it’s only one of the purposes it serves. The skeleton trailer is welded by the main beam, cross beam and front and rear beams. The main beam is made of high-quality steel plate 16Mn submerged arc welded into I-shape with typical dimensions of 450 and 500. The cross beam is stamped into groove shape with high-quality steel plate, while the front and rear end beams are welded into rectangular sections. The middle container locking device is equipped with an integral long beam to improve its bearing capacity.
Flatbed Semi Trailer
The loading platform of Flatbed trailer has no side boards, which is the main characteristic that differenciates it from side wall trailer. Basically, a lowbed trailer is just askeleton trailer with a large piece of flat steel plate welded on its platform. The main beam can be flat type or gooseneck type. It is also mainly used for medium and long-distance freight transportation.
Lowbed Semi Trailer
Lowbd trailer is usually used to transport extremely heavy machineries and goods of different sorts. Its low center of gravity provides better stability and safety, which gives it stronger ability to transport ultra-high goods and pass overhead obstacles. The low flat semi-trailer usually uses concave beam (or well type) frame. The middle section, which is the lowest part of the vehicle, is the cargo platform. When loading mechanical equipment onto a lowbed, it is usually loaded from the rear end of the vehicle.
Heavy-duty Lowbed Semi Trailer
Heavy low flat semi-trailer is used for loading super large and overweight cargo. The basic form of heavy-duty lowbed trailer is a single flatbed trailer. It generally has the following structure of collinear axles, which means there are two axles on one axis, also known as the two axle setup.
Side Wall Semi Trailer
Side wall semi-trailer is a kind of trailer whose cargo carrying part is of side board structure. It is mainly suitable for medium and long-distance transportation of medium and heavy goods and bulk goods. Its strong applicability has made it the first choice for long-distance freight transportations in many countries.
Cargo Fence Semi Trailer
Cargo Fence trailer’s cargo carrying part adopts the design of fence structure. It is mainly used for the transportation of agricultural and sideline products and other light goods.
Dump Semi Trailer
The dump trailer is suitable for the transportation of bulk goods such as coal, ore and construction materials. Dump semi trailers can be divided into two categories according to their purposes: one is heavy and super heavy dump trailers for off-road transportation, which mainly undertake transportation tasks such as large mines and projects. They are usually used with excavators. The other kind is light and medium-sized dump trailers used for highway transportation, which are mainly used to transport loose goods such as sand, soil and coal, and are usually used with loaders.
Container Semi Trailer
Container semi-trailer is a trailer with container structure. It is mainly used for logistics systems supporting ships, ports, routes, highways, transfer stations, bridges, tunnels, and multimodal transport.
The above are some classifications of semi-trailers, and we will continue to show more types in the next article. If you are interested in our semi-trailers, or have any questions about semi-trailers, you can contact us at any time.
